marc newson: caroma bathroom collection
marc newson 'caroma bathroom collection'
developed in collaboration between marc newson and australian sanitary-ware producer caroma, the 22-piece 'caroma marc newson range'
consists of a full family of ceramic products including: faucets, toilets, urinals and shower heads.

the bathtub is considered the 'hero' as people look at it as somewhat anachronistic, however, it can be a very important component for the image of a range,
so newson designed one to complete his collection.

newson's approach to developing the taps was to reduce them down to the smallest number of parts.
the series of products were engineered to deliver the user clear, precise instructions for installation, allowing for a minimal
attachment to the wall without the typical flange made to hide all the 'shoddy' workmanship.
'I hate mixer tap designs because they're all the same. it irritates me how the archteypal vola mixer has been just so shamelessly ripped off.
I wanted to move away from that, which is difficult, especially given that the main internal component in all mixes is more or less identical,'
says newson of the conception of the faucets. 'it's all about the lowest denominator, rather than trying to design a foolproof solution
that will look precise and well integrated. for the hand-held shower, the rail doubles as a valve for the water hookup –
a feature that seems self evident but is in fact an innovation,' he continues.
